Jatio Shok Dibosh 2021 (Mourning Day): History, Significance, Facts and Celebration: 15 August!! The Black Chapter of Bangladesh! Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family members were brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. And this carnage is touted as the ugliest chapter in the nation’s history.

Jatio Shok Dibosh 2021: History

National Mourning Day (Shok Dibosh in Bangla) is a national day celebrated in Bangladesh. Every year this day is celebrated nationally on 15th August. On this day the black flag was hoisted and the national flag of Bangladesh was kept at half-mast.

Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family members were brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. That’s why this day observes to make the day memorable.

Members of Mujib’s family were killed on 15 August: Son Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and infant son Sheikh Russell, Daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosie Kamal, Brother Sheikh Abu Nasser, Nephew Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani and his pregnant wife Begum Arju Mani. Colonel Jamiluddin rushed to save Bangabandhu’s life and he too was killed.
